Case Study 2 – Building Society Expense Review
As a top twenty society our client had confidently believed that they were obtaining very competitive prices. Following an external consultancy review highlighting some non- competitive global figures the executive team decided to challenge all internal pricing and undertake a full external review of overheads and expenses but wished this conducted without any resources being applied by the in-house team.
Once engaged we conducted an initial review and quickly focused on office consumables, IT consumables, print archiving and telecoms as the most wayward prices. Not only were significant savings identified quickly but there was a considerable lack of transactional compliance. As a result we assisted the client to introduce a more robust centralised procurement process.
New procurement price, quality and service targets were set and where possible existing suppliers were retained. An overall saving of 22% was achieved on these items and the client now views Expense Management UK as an active partner and quarterly compliance statements continue to be produced to ensure the client continues to contain its costs. We are now focusing on other overhead expenses in an attempt to achieve considerably more savings in this very competitive building society sector.
